Van Riper and Nies is a military
veteran-owned law firm led by attorney Christian Van Riper, a former Florida
Assistant State Attorney and a Department of Children and Families (DCF)
Investigator, and attorney Timothy Nies, a former U.S. Army Ranger and
former insurance company casualty trial attorney.
To thank
those that make sacrifices for our country and community, our law firm
proudly offers a 20% discount
on
our family law legal fees for all:
- active-duty military personnel.
- veterans.
- law enforcement officers.
- firefighters.
The life
and work experiences of our attorneys distinguishes them from other
family law attorneys. Christian Van Riper, a lifelong resident of
Stuart, was an investigator with DCF prior to attending law school. In
that capacity, he investigated allegations and cases of child neglect
and abuse. While attending Stetson University College of Law, where he
graduated in the top of his class, he served as a Law Clerk for the
Supreme Court of Florida, where he advised Supreme Court Justices on
criminal and civil issues, including family law issues. After law
school, Christian served as an Assistant State Attorney, where he
prosecuted cases of domestic abuse and juvenile crimes, among others. As
a prosecutor, with a heavy case load, Christian honed his jury trial
skills and learned to work quickly and smartly under pressure. His
experience as both a DCF investigator and a prosecutor provides him with
unique insight into issues facing family and the field of family law.
Attorney
Timothy Nies, a former U.S. Army Ranger with the elite 75th Ranger
Regiment, attended Nova Southeastern University. While in law school,
Timothy clerked for one of the most well-known family law attorneys in
South Florida. Thereafter, he worked for the largest insurance defense
law firm as a senior casualty trial attorney, where he polished his
trial skills.
Christian and Timothy, who are cousins, litigate and try each family law
case as a powerful and close-knit litigation team. They are known for
their trial skills, and for leaving no stone unturned when
fighting for their clients' rights.
Our
family law practice includes:
- Divorce Actions, contested and uncontested,
- Child Support,
- Child Neglect,
- Child Visitation
- Domestic Violence - we represent spouses requiring restraining orders,
- Paternity Tests,
- Relocation, and
- Prenuptial Agreements.
Given
Christian Van Riper's experience as a DCF investigator, we are sensitive
to issues involving children. Divorce and child custody
proceedings are particularly stressful to young children. The stress of a
drawn-out and ugly dissolution of marriage and custody battle may
result in problems at school, resentment, and psychological
disturbances.
We, more than many other firms, will strive to keep the best interests
of our clients' children the primary focus of our family law practice.
Our goal is to come up with a solution to each and every family law case
quickly and economically. According to firm attorney, Timothy Nies, who
himself has gone through a divorce: "In my opinion, large amounts
of money spent on lawyers' fees in a long divorce proceeding when kids
are involved is a problem. In the end, a large amount of money spent on
attorneys' fees by both parties in a long divorce case would have been
better spent on the future of the parties' children; therefore,
Christian and I strive to completing the dissolution of marriage as
quickly, economically and justly as possible."
